TERRAZZIO SPECIFICATIONS
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 DESCRIPTION
A. Provide all labor, material and equipment necessary to
Install Terrazzio Floor and Wall Tile.
B. Related Work Specified Elsewhere:
1. Cast-in-place Concrete: Section 03300
2. Rough Carpentry: Section 06100
1.02 QUALITY CRITERIA
A. Provide Standard: The material is to comply with the
following standards and provide the minimum results shown.
1. Abrasion Resistance ASTM C-501 model 503 Tabor
Abraser weight loss - 0.3437 gr. w/CS-17 wheels, 1000
cycles, 2/1000 gr. load wear loss - 0.0008 in.
2. Compressive Strength ASTM D-695 106,600#
applied over 12,766 PSI no Fracture or effect 15/4 sq. in.
3. Flame Spread E84-81a 20
4. Fuel Contribution E84-81a 10
5. Smoke Density E84-81a 180
B. Application Setting Materials and all accessory items
are to be materials recommended by the manufacturer of
Terrazzio.
1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: Submit (4) copies of manufacturer's
product literature including technical information and
installation instruction for each type of Floor and Wall
Tile, accessory, and adhesive material.
B. Shop Drawings; Submit 4 blue prints of Terrazzio work.
Shop Drawings are to be drawn to 1/2" = 1'- 0"
scale or larger and are to show plans for layout work and
details of joints and edge conditions.
C. Samples: Submit 3 samples of each pattern and color of
Terrazzio required, not less than 3" x 3". Samples
are to be reviewed for color, pattern and texture only.
D. Maintenance Instructions: Submit 3 copies of written
instructions for recommended periodic maintenance of
Terrazzio.
1.04 PRODUCT DELIVERY STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Material is to be delivered to the job site in
manufacture's original unopened containers.
B. Store materials inside, undercover and protected from
moisture and edge damage.
C. Handle all material to prevent damage to edges and
corners.
1.05 JOB CONDITIONS
A. Interior - Do not begin Terrazzio installation until
the building has been held to a minimum temperature of
70(F.) for 5 full days and the entire quantity of Terrazzio
mortar and adhesive has been stored inside the building for
3 days. A minimum of 70 F. must be maintained throughout the
installation period and for 2 days after the installation is
complete.
B. Exterior - Rustic Terrazzio to be kept under cover
during storage and during installation. Panels are to
be kept clean and dry prior to installation.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 Terrazzio Floor Tile
A. Raw Material: Terrazzio Tile to be manufactured
of Natural Stone, with a Fiberglass Reinforced Resin Binding
Matrix.
B. Size: Terrazzio Tile to be 3/16" nominal thickness
and Not less than four square feet per tile.
C. Color: To be selected by the Architect/Interior
Designer from the manufacture's standard color selections.
2.02 ADHESIVE
A. Encapsulation Adhesive to be Latapoxy 300 as
manufactured by Laticrete International 1 Laticrete Park
North Bethany, CT 06524-3423, Phone: 203-393-0010 EXT.235 or
800-243-4788 EXT.235 or
B. Encapsulation Adhesive to be Henry 452 Epoxy Adhesive
as Manufactured by WW Henry Company, 400 Adex Park Drive, Aliquippa,
PA 15001, Phone: 724-203-5354.
2.04 GROUT
A. Grout joint to be ¼" wide. Grouting
material is to be 637.0 LataPoxy SP-100 Stainless Grout for
Floor‘N Walls and manufactured By Laticrete International
1 Laticrete Park North Bethany, CT 06524-3423, Phone:
203-393-0010 EXT.235 or 800-243-4788 EXT.235.
2.05 EXPANSION JOINT CONTROL STRIPS
A. Materials to be type suitable for the joint size and
recommended by specifier or approved by the the Terrazzio
Tile manufacturer.
Part 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 GENERAL PREPARATION
A. Building temperature of 70(F to have been maintained
for 5 days prior to the start of installation and all
material is to have been acclimatized in the building for 3
days.
3.02 SUBSTRATE PREPARATION:
A. Concrete
1. The concrete or concrete block substrate will
have been placed and finished for a minimum of 28 days prior
to beginning installation and must have a smooth, hard
finish.
2. Where concrete does not have a smooth finish
Lati-level 88 as manufactured by Laticrete International (1
Laticrete Park North Bethany, CT 06524-3423, Phone:
203-393-0010 EXT.235 or 800-243-4788 EXT.235) must be
installable to bring the concrete to a smooth even finish.
3. All oils, waxes, curing compounds or
other materials on the surface of the concrete that will
inhibit adhesion are to be removed. Surface to be completely
dry prior to installation of Terrazzio.
B. Plywood
- Plywood sub floor to be composed of two layers of
5/8" exterior grade plywood. Plywood to be screwed
to framing on 16" centers.
- Surface to be completely clean and dry prior to
installation of Terrazzio.
3.03 A. Entire surface is to be examined for soft spots. No
flexing or deflection in the surface. Replace soft substrate or
add additional bracing to eliminate defection.
3.04 INSTALLATION: GENERAL
A. All installation to be in strict accordance with
manufacturer's printed installation instructions.
B. All cutting of Durastone to be accomplished with an
abrasive or diamond blade in a rotary saw.
C. All hole or circles to be cut using carbide tipped
drill or diamond hole saw.
D. Control Joints to be installed when crossing expansion
joints in substrate.
3.05 INSTALLATION: ADHESIVE
A. All installation to be in strict accordance with the
manufacturer's printed installation instructions.
B. Do not allow adhesive grout or mortar get on
the front side of the Terrazzio Tile.
3.06 INSTALLATION:
A. All installation to be in strict accordance with
manufacturer's printed instructions.
3.07 CLEAN UP AND PROTECTION
A. Remove all excess and scrap materials from the job
immediately after installation is complete.
B. Provide Kraft paper covering over traffic areas until
completion of project.
C. Remove any excess adhesive or grout from the Terrazzio
immediately after it appears on the surface
